Lubbock's Guerra to run for Pioneers

Wayland Baptist cross country/track and field coach Brian Whitlock has signed his first recruit of the 2015-16 academic year in Xavier Guerra of Lubbock.

Guerra, a senior at Coronado High School, will run both cross country and track for the Pioneers.

"We're excited to have Xavier. He's shown the commitment it takes to be a part of our program," Whitlock said. "I've gotten to know Xavier over the past couple of years and believe he will be a great addition to our program in many respects."

Guerra has been a regional qualifier in cross country for the Mustangs.

"We're glad to have a local kid from Lubbock," Whitlock said.

Wayland's men's cross country team finished ranked 23rd in the NAIA this past season. The 2014-15 WBU men's track and field teams were national runners-up both indoors and outdoors.
