Close to 30 student-athletes, including a handful of repeat MVP winners, were recognized at the Wayland Baptist Fall Sports Awards Presentation held Wednesday evening in McClung Center.

Junior
Benard Keter repeated as most valuable in men's cross country after finishing as national runner-up while senior
Shahala Hawkins earned her second straight MVP honor in volleyball after becoming the program's all-time leader in kills. Also in volleyball, senior
Chelsey Driskill, last season's Offensive Player of the Year, was named Hitter of the Year. Junior
Rossanna Ramos received the Ashleah Richards Defensive Player of the Year Award.
Machala Noack received the Most Improved Award.

In other cross country awards, freshman
Jackline Jemeli was named most valuable in the women's program while
Kaelene Mooney was Newcomer of the Year. Besides Keter being MVP, other men's awards went to
Raul Almaraz for top newcomer and Randy Borden for most improved.

The Pioneer football program realized three players who also won awards last year:
Trey Rowe,
Alden Mann and
Daniel Martinez as outstanding on offense, defense and special teams, respectively.
Leslie Scarlett shared special teams recognition while Jarrell Peterson was presented the Pioneer Spirit Player Award and
Chris Acosta,
Josh Bailey and
Kaleen Jones shared the Fighting Heart Award.

In women's soccer, junior
Bailey Stengler and senior
Annysa Plata were named co-MVP. Senior
Cerila Zamarripa, who won last year's Coaches' Award, was the Defensive Player of the Year, while senior
Jodian Morris was Offensive MVP.
Sarah Castro took home the Coaches' Award while
Reagan Springfield was the Newcomer of the Year.

Arturo Valle-Sardaneta and freshman
Alex Castillo were the Offensive and Defensive MVP, respectively. Most improved went to
D'Angelo Garcia and
Palemon Plancarte, while the Coaches' Award was presented to
Christopher Lamorte and
Travis Somersall.
