The Wayland Baptist University Athletic Department has been recognized by the NAIA as a Champions of Character Five-Star Institution for 2014-15.

Institutions are measured on a demonstrated commitment to Champions of Character and earned points in character training, conduct in competition, academic focus, character recognition and character promotion. Institutions earned points based on exceptional student-athlete grade point averages and by having minimal to no ejections during competition throughout the course of the academic year.

Wayland received recognition on the bronze level.

Rick Cooper said. "Our coaches and student-athletes work hard on these initiatives, and we'll continue to strive to improve in all areas."

A total of 169 NAIA institutions were named to the Five-Star Award winners.
