Janelle didn't know she would be competing this weekend until a few hours before competing in the pentathlon at the Masked Rider Open at Texas Tech. In class on Friday morning at the time it was discovered the pentathlon would be offered at the meet, Janelle hurried to Lubbock where she proceeded to post personal-best marks in all five events: 55 hurdles (8.77 seconds), high jump (5-feet, 0½ inches), shot put (29-3¼), long jump (16-0½) and 800 (2:49.62). Those marks were good for 2,945 points. With the top 16 athletes qualifying for NAIA Nationals, Coach Rohan Thompson expects Janelle to be competing in the pentathlon next month in Geneva, Ohio.

"The top 16 go to nationals, and that should hold up," Thompson said.
