Dennis helped the ross country team to a runner-up finish in the SAC Championships in Bethany, Okla. Coach Brian Whitlock said Dennis unselfishly agreed to hold back and not pursue the race favorites in order to benefit Wayland’s No. 2 and 3 runners.
“It made a big difference for my second and third men,” Whitlock said. The strategy helped freshmen Alex Spencer place fourth – right behind Kiptoo in third – and Jordan Dixon take ninth. Both joined Kiptoo as all-conference honorees and national qualifiers.
“Dennis has really developed, not only as an athlete this year but he is a true team player," Whitlock said.
A junior from Kenya, Dennis placed third for the second straight year, completing the 8k course in 25:43.
