Rochene set a school record and ran the NAIA’s fastest time of the season in the 100 meters at the West Texas A&M Classic on Saturday. The freshman from Jamaica broke the tape in 11.18 seconds (11.21 adjusted for altitude) to better the school record of 11.35 set by Kimberly Smith five years ago in Lubbock. “Rochene’s time in the 100 is pretty special,” said WBU coach Rohan Thompson. She also helped the 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams, which already had the NAIA’s fastest times of the season, to first-place finishes with times of 45.17 and 3:47.11, respectively. Also, Rochene finished third out of 22 entrants in the 200 with a time of 24.24. She already had the NAIA’s second-fastest time in that event. Rochene has helped the Pioneer women to a No. 1 ranking by the USTFCCCA.
