Demetrius, a freshman from Killeen, was named Sooner Athletic Conference Men’s Track Athlete of the Week after competing in four events at the West Texas A&M Invitational in Canyon, finishing first, second, third and fourth. Turner ran the NAIA's second-best time of the season in the 400 (46.84) and anchored the 4x100 relay to the NAIA's fourth-best time of the season (40.85). He also qualified for nationals with an "A" standard in the 200 (21.42) and ran on WBU’s “B” team in the 4x400 relay (3:24.23).
“Demetrius had been struggling a little bit over the last month, but he stepped up and ran one of the best freshman quarter times we've ever had at Wayland, and we've had a lot of good quarter-milers. That was really impressive for him,” coach Brian Whitlock said.
