Alden Mann was named winner of the 2016-17 Roscoe Snyder Award, recognizing him as the top senior male student-athlete at Wayland, based on athletic ability, academics and character. Mann, of Wimberley, is WBU’s first football all-American, earning AFCA NAIA All-American First Team honors as well as Associated Press Little All-American Second Team after finishing second in the NAIA with 17 tackles per game and setting school records for most tackles in a career (403), season (136) and game (25). The linebacker was named Central States Football League Defensive Player of the Year and is a three-time All-CSFL pick, including a first-team honoree the past two seasons. He was voted conference Defensive Player of the Week 10 times over the last two seasons, including NAIA National Player of the Week once, and was a finalist for the Cliff Harris Award recognizing the nation's top small college defensive player. He was a Champions of Character representative for his team and received NAIA Scholar-Athlete and Academic All-American honors.
