A 5-foot-9 junior forward from Southport, England, James scored two goals to lead the 11th-ranked Pioneer soccer team to a 3-1 road win over No. 18 Southwestern Christian (Okla.). The victory secured at least a share of Wayland’s third-straight SAC regular-season title and guaranteed the Pioneers (12-3, 7-2 SAC) the No. 1 seed in the conference tournament.
It was the first two-goal game of the season for James, who has six goals on the season, the second-most on the team.
As the top seed, Wayland will host all of its SAC Tournament matches, starting with a quarterfinal contest Saturday against No. 8 seed Southwestern Assemblies of God University (6-11-1, 3-6). A time for that contest will be announced later.
