Lucie helped the volleyball team to wins in four of five matches last week, defeating University of the Southwest in their home-opener before going to Denver where they won 3-of-4 matches in the Mile High Challenge against Presentation College, S.D., Friends, Kan., and Johnson & Wales, Colo. The victories against Presentation and Friends both were in five sets, while the wins over USW and J&W were sweeps. WBU’s lone loss last week was 3-1 to Dickinson St., N.D.

A 5-10 junior setter from Znojmo, Czech Republic, Lucie ended the week with 144 assists, a 7.20 average. The first-year transfer from Laredo College also totaled 57 digs, 18 kills, four aces and a solo block. According to coach Jim Giacomazzi, Lucie showed tremendous toughness by playing through pain from kidney stones, in part because the team’s other setter, Renzelle Horner, was dealing with a back injury.
