Cesar, a sophomore from Springlake-Earth High School, impressed cross country coach Brian Whitlock at the Texas Tech Open. Cesar ran a time of 29 minutes, 58 seconds over the 8-kilometer course at Lubbock Christian University’s Chaparral Ridge Golf Course, finishing in 58th place out of more than 100 runners.
“I was really happy with Cesar. He did a good job training and was my fifth man today," said Whitlock, adding that Cesar trained over the summer and came back to school in shape ready to compete.
The cross country team is scheduled to compete in two weeks at the Chile Pepper Festival in Fayetteville, Ark.
