Desiree, a junior from Grand View, Wash., won the 136-pound class at the Wayland Invitational, winning all four of her matches by tech fall by a combined score of 44-4. She defeated the 11th-ranked wrestler from Lyon College, 14-4, the fourth-ranked wrestler from Midland, 10-0, and in the championship match the fifth-ranked (at 143) wrestler from Oklahoma City University.
"She wrestled in what in my opinion was the deepest weight bracket (in the tournament) and pretty much dominated,” Wayland coach Aaron Meister said.
A transfer from Grays Harbor College, Wash., Desiree is ranked first in the NAIA at her weight and is undefeated on the season at 7-0 for the sixth-ranked Pioneers.
