A 5-foot-7 sophomore guard from Lubbock, Payton helped the fifth-ranked Flying Queens to a pair of Sooner Athletic Conference road wins over Science & Arts of Oklahoma, 78-66, and Mid-America Christian, 103-69. They were Wayland’s 16th and 17th consecutive victories, the program’s longest streak since a 21-game streak during the 2015-16 season.
After recording nine points, six assists and four rebounds against USAO, Payton went for 19 points (two off her career-high) with six rebounds and two assists against MACU. She matched her season-best with four 3-pointers (on eight attempts) against MACU. She also notched two steals and a block during the road trip.
