A junior from Welkom, South Africa, van Zyl finished in fourth place out of 98 golfers at the Susie Maxwell Berning Classic in Oklahoma City. Playing at Lincoln Park East, van Zyl was tied for the lead after shooting an opening 1-over par 71. She turned in a 75 in round two, and her 146 total tied her for fourth place four shots behind the winner.

The Pioneers, ranked the equivalent of 27^th in the NAIA, finished fifth out of 18 teams.
