Cristhian Ospina is the Pioneers head men's soccer coach, beginning as the interim coach in 2014 before being officially named head coach in 2015.
Ospina and the Pioneers put together the program's best season ever in 2016 when the program won its first-ever Sooner Athletic Conference regular-season and tournament championships. The Pioneers also earned the program's highest ranking of 20th in the NAIA Postseason Top 25 with a school-record mark of 14-4-3. Ospina was voted the SAC Coach of the Year.
Ospina's career record at Wayland is 32-18-6.
During Ospina's playing career with the Pioneers, he helped them to seven wins in 2010 and 12 wins in 2011. Primarily a defender, he scored two goals and had five assists in two years at WBU.
Before he became head coach, Ospina, a native of Miami, Fla., served as graduate assistant for the Pioneers. He helped the Pioneers to 13 wins and a consistent appearance in the NAIA Coaches' Top 25 poll, climbing as high as ninth.
Prior to coming to Wayland, Ospina played soccer at Georgia Perimeter in 2009 and 2010. In 2009, the Jaguars were the National Junior College Athletics Association runners-up. As a high school player he was a member of two Florida state and national championship teams.
