Josh Weir joined the Wayland Baptist University men’s basketball program in the summer of 2015 after spending the previous 10 seasons playing in Australia’s State Basketball League.
At Wayland Baptist University, along with day-to-day basketball duties, Weir oversees the team’s strength and conditioning program. Having experience as well as holding certifications in strength and conditioning, Weir tailors his programming specifically to meet the needs of basketball players and the Pioneers' up-tempo style of play. This was evident as in his first year the Pioneers were among the highest-scoring teams in the nation.
As a professional player, Weir’s entire career was spent with the South West Slammers, which is one of his proudest achievements. His last three seasons with the franchise, he worked with and played alongside then Slammers and current Pioneers head coach Ty Harrelson. Weir served as team captain during his last two seasons.
While in the SBL, Weir was known for his energy, toughness and tenacity on the basketball court. Harrelson described him as a “fierce competitor, a good teammate, and a great leader. Defensively, we would always give him the tough assignments because he was capable of guarding multiple positions.”
Weir’s collegiate playing career began with two years at Kaskaskia College (Illinois) at the NJCAA level. After graduating with an associate's degree, Weir continued his collegiate playing career at Missouri Valley College where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sports management.
