Pioneers Pick Up First Road Win

Shawnee, Okla.---The Pioneers came out of their offensive slump in a big way Saturday afternoon against St. Gregory's, recording 35 shots in a 3-1 win over the Lady Cavaliers. Danielle Purcell, Najuka Anderson and Kayla Lucus all picked up goals for WBU in its first conference victory of the season.

After accumulating just four shots on net in the past two road games, Coach Shiloh Posey's squad racked up 22 against SGU, which remained winless in SAC play. Lucus, Jessica Hershon and Rebekah Windham each forced the Lady Cavalier goalie to make four saves, and Anderson placed all three of her shots on goal.

St. Greg's got just six shots through to Pioneer goalie Kylie Middleton.

The Wayland women held a 1-0 lead at the intermission when Purcell scored an unassisted goal four and a half minutes into the contest.

SGU tied it up early in the second half, but Anderson got the game winner less than a minute later. Lucus gave the Pioneers some cushion with her fourth goal of the season midway through the final period.

WBU has two more matches on the road this week as they travel to Edmond, Okla. on Thursday to take on Oklahoma Christian University at 6 p.m. Saturday's match-up will be against Northwestern Oklahoma State in Alva at 3 p.m.
