Portales, NM---Kayla Lucus scored two unassisted goals within an eight minute span late in the first period for the Pioneers, but it wasn't enough to overcome four early goals by Eastern New Mexico in a 6-2 loss Friday afternoon.
A junior from Lubbock, Lucus came off the bench to record the only four shots on goal for the Wayland women.
The Pioneers had seven shots in the game, one each by Amber Perez, Jessica Hershon and Danielle Purcell and the four by Lucus.
WBU goalkeeper Kylie Middleton was forced to make 20 saves in the game.
Sooner Athletic Conference action begins for the Pioneers next week when they host Southern Nazarene University on Saturday, Sept. 20 at 1 p.m.
