Janowicz Scores 19 Against #3 Bison

Box Score

Taylor Janowicz had another career day for the Wayland Baptist Pioneers on Saturday afternoon, but #3 Oklahoma Baptist kept its win streak in tact with an 85-63 win.

Janowicz bettered the career mark of 17 that he established on Thursday with 19 points against the Bison.  The seven footer from Scottsdale, Ariz. also pulled down six rebounds, handed out two assists and got a steal in over 26 minutes of playing time.  Joining Janowicz in double figures was Tommie Sanders with 14 and Rishi Kakad with 12.

The Bison showed why they are the third-ranked team in the NAIA, hitting 62.5 percent of their shots from the field.  Nate Brumfield, who leads the NAIA in field goal shooting (72%) and is the SAC's leading scorer (22.9 ppg), hit 10-of-13 on his way to a game-high 26 points.  A.J. Hawkins, a senior transfer from Wichita State, added 23 points for OBU, which improved to 15-0 on the season and 7-0 in conference play.

Wayland scored first on Janowicz's shot in the paint off a pass from Johnny Terra.  The Pioneers stayed close early on, but the visitors went on a 19-4 run in the latter stages of the first period to take control.

WBU shot just 35 percent in the first half, but came back in the final 20 minutes, hitting 15 of its 29 shots (51.7%) from the field, and outscoring the Bison, 43-40.

The Pioneers had one less turnover (18) than OBU (19), and one more steal (6-5), but the Bison edged out Wayland on the boards, 30-28, and in the paint, 44-36.   WBU was held to a season-low three three-pointers in the game.

Rodrigo Silva had six rebounds for the Pioneers.  Terra was the team's assist leader with six, and Sanders was credited with two steals.

WBU (5-8, 1-7) returns to the road next week with conference games against USAO on Thursday and Southern Nazarene on Saturday.
