#7 Bison Rally Past Pioneers

SHAWNEE, Okla. --- The Wayland Baptist Pioneers were held scoreless for the first eight minutes of the second half as seventh-ranked Oklahoma Baptist overcame a seven-point halftime deficit to improve to 11-2 on the season with a 69-58 victory.

The Pioneers, which shot 63 percent from the field in their win on Saturday at St. Gregory's, continued with the hot hand on Monday, hitting 56 percent of their shots in the first 20 minutes, including five of nine three-pointers, to take a 36-29 lead into the intermission.

OBU turned things around in a hurry to start the second half, outscoring the Pioneers 21-0. The Bison scored on its first nine possessions and held the Wayland men to six missed shots and five turnovers.

The Pioneers eventually used a 7-0 run to close the gap to nine points, and got as close as seven in the game's final minute, but the home team hit its free throws down the stretch to seal the win.

George Williams picked up 16 points for WBU. The junior also handed out a game-high five assists and had two steals. Johnny Terra was the only other Pioneer in double figures with 11 points. Bobby Watkins had a team-high six rebounds.

The Bison got 19 points from Emmanuel Wilson and 16 from Kevin Swinton.

Up next for the Wayland men, which fell 6-7 overall and 1-5 in conference action, are home games against USAO on Thursday evening and versus #12 Southern Nazarene University on Saturday afternoon.
