Myers is Defensive Player of Week; Pioneers play JBU at 2

Wayland keeper Keri Myers.
Wayland Baptist goalkeeper Keri Myers has been named Sooner Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week.

Myers, a freshman from Waterloo, Trinidad, collected seven saves in helping the Pioneers to a 1-0 win over Science and Arts of Oklahoma on Saturday night in the first round of the SAC Tournament. It was the first-ever post-season win in the 10-year history of the program, and it was Myers' third shutout of the season.

SAC Offensive Player of the Week is Texas Wesleyan's Alexis Michaelkovich, a junior midfielder from Colorado Springs, Colo., who notched three goals and an assist in the Lady Rams' 4-2 win over Oklahoma Baptist in SAC Tournament.

The Pioneers (13-6) play in the conference tourney semifinals at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Siloam Springs, Ark., against second-seeded John Brown University (14-3-1), which defeated Northwood in the first round, 2-1. The Golden Eagles defeated Wayland when they played in Siloam Springs on Oct. 19, 3-0.

"Last time we played them we made some defensive mistakes and they made us pay for it," WBU coach Shiloh Posey said. "JBU is a solid team, and Tuesday is a battle that we want to go back and fight again."

The other semifinal sees top-seeded, 18th-ranked Oklahoma City University (14-4) hosting No. 5 seed Texas Wesleyan (12-4-2) at 6 p.m. Tuesday. OCU defeated sixth-seeded Mid-America Christian, 4-0, while Texas Wesleyan took out fourth-seeded Oklahoma Baptist, 4-2, in first-round matches.

Semifinal winners will square off at the site of the highest seed on Friday. The SAC Tournament champion automatically qualifies for the NAIA National Tournament.
