Box Score The Wayland Baptist women's soccer team took its second 1-1 tie of the season Saturday evening at J.V. Hilliard Field, ending knotted with the Mid-America Christian Lady Evangels in a Sooner Athletic Conference double-overtime draw.
Â
Coach
Shiloh Posey was proud of his team's effort, but he thought the Pioneers (2-5-3, 1-1-2 SAC) worked more than they had to in the match against the Lady Evangels (5-4-1, 2-0-1 SAC).
Â
"When we go away from what we know best, we work harder than we have to," Posey said, alluding to a formula that earned them a win on Tuesday against St. Gregory's.
Â
Although they captured an early lead thanks to senior
Jessica Bell's third goal of the season in the 17th-minute when she scored from some 15 feet away, assisted by senior
Jodian Morris, the Evangels answered with a score of their own from senior Cici Mitchell in the 33
rd minute, assisted by freshmen Rochelle Bohuslavicky.
Â
Posey was pleased with the Pioneers' performance, but he noticed a change from MACU after its score before halftime.
Â
"They changed their formation and we tried to correct it at halftime," he said. "The girls did a good job of adjusting. We just had a little trouble getting the result we wanted."
Â
With all the adjustments, neither team was able to put another goal on the board during a scoreless second half and two overtime periods.
Â
"Some nights, things bounce a little funny," Posey said. "MACU gave us all we could handle."
Â
The Evangels outshot the Pioneers, 22-11, and each team picked up a yellow card at critical points in the game.
Â
The next match for the Pioneers will be 1 p.m. Oct. 17 in Waxahachie against Southwestern Assemblies of God University (7-6, 1-3), which fell to Texas Wesleyan no Saturday, 2-1.
