Women's soccer falls in first-ever match vs. Emporia St.

Box Score

The Pioneers women's soccer team took on the Emporia State (Kan.) Hornets in their home opener Friday afternoon at Hilliard Field. It was the first-ever meeting between the two teams, and the undefeated Hornets scored twice early to earn the win over Wayland, 2-0.

The Hornets' Amelie Heun scored in the sixth minute and Grace Linton in the 34th minute for ESU (3-0).

From there, Emporia State never looked back.

The Pioneers (0-3-1) struggled to get shots, attempting only one shot on goal the entire match. Jodian Morris took it and finished with four of Wayland's six shots.

Although they stopped the scoring from the Hornets in the second half, the Pioneers couldn't manage to put any on the board.

Wayland now has more than a week off before its next match on Sept. 20 against 24th-ranked Our Lady of the Lake University, which has a 2-0 record against the Pioneers in the past two years.
