Women's soccer starts slowly, falls 4-1

Box Score SAN ANTONIO – The Wayland Baptist women's soccer team is still looking for its first win after a 4-1 loss against the 19th-ranked Our Lady of the Lake Saints here Sunday afternoon.

The Pioneers (0-4-1) had a tough match against OLLU (5-2-1).

"We started slowly and made a couple of mistakes that could be corrected," Wayland coach Shiloh Posey said. "The second half was much better after we made adjustments."

The Saints scored all of their goals in the first half while the Pioneers didn't score until senior Jodian Morris connected in the 84th minute. It was her 3rd goal of the season.

Wayland was outshot on the afternoon, 23-8. Morris led the Pioneers with three attempts.

Posey believes the Pioneers could have done better if they had not given OLLU so many opportunities.

"If we did what we did for (the last) 45 minutes for (the whole) 90, we could've won or even tied," he said.

The Pioneers will look to make some adjustments before hitting the road for Hobbs, N.M., to face the University of the Southwest at 4 p.m. (Central) Wednesday. The match will be played at New Mexico Junior College.

"We'll have to have a short-term memory," said Posey. "We're going to work hard on Monday and Tuesday and go Wednesday to USW to try to get our first win."
