Pioneers fight back, but fall short to Drovers

Box Score CHICKASHA, Okla. The Wayland Baptist women's soccer team gave the USAO Drovers all they could handle here Tuesday afternoon, but came up short in their Sooner Athletic Conference opener, falling 3-2 at Drover Field.

The game went back and forth until late in the second half when the Drovers scored two goals, one from Megan Kettlewell at the 61-minute mark and another Ryah Vyse at the 71-minute mark.

Wayland's women were led in scoring by senior Jodian Morris' two goals, one late to keep the Pioneers in striking distance.

The Pioneers (1-5-1 overall, 0-1-0 SAC) were outshot by the Drovers (3-4-2, 1-0-0) 22-16, although the Drovers committed more penalties which helped Wayland get within a score of tying the match.

Coach Shiloh Posey and the Pioneers' next match will be in Fort Worth at 3 p.m. Saturday against Texas Wesleyan (5-2).
