Box Score CHICKASHA, Okla. – The Wayland Baptist women's soccer team gave the USAO Drovers all they could handle here Tuesday afternoon, but came up short in their Sooner Athletic Conference opener, falling 3-2 at Drover Field. The game went back and forth until late in the second half when the Drovers scored two goals, one from Megan Kettlewell at the 61-minute mark and another Ryah Vyse at the 71-minute mark.
Wayland's women were led in scoring by senior Jodian Morris' two goals, one late to keep the Pioneers in striking distance.
The Pioneers (1-5-1 overall, 0-1-0 SAC) were outshot by the Drovers (3-4-2, 1-0-0) 22-16, although the Drovers committed more penalties which helped Wayland get within a score of tying the match.
Coach Shiloh Posey and the Pioneers' next match will be in Fort Worth at 3 p.m. Saturday against Texas Wesleyan (5-2).
