Women's soccer turned away in Alpine

Box Score ALPINE – In the first-ever women's soccer match between Wayland Baptist and Sul Ross State here Friday afternoon, the Pioneers came away on the short end of a 3-1 final.
 
It was the first win of the season for the Lady Lobos (1-1), who were making their home debut. SRSU dropped its season-opener Monday in San Antonio to Trinity, ranked fifth in NCAA Division III, 2-0.
 
The Lady Lobos scored some 12½ minutes into the match on a goal by Lauren Ebbs. A 6-foot senior from Dublin, Ireland, Ebbs scored again in the 32nd minute to make it 2-0 SRSU.
 
Just over two minutes later, Wayland (0-3) picked up its lone goal from Megan Attenborough. It came off a corner kick with an assist from Chelsea Beaubouef.
 
Attenborough, a sophomore has scored both of the Pioneers' goals this season.
 
SRSU recorded an insurance goal with 3½ minutes left when Ebbs recorded the hat trick.
 
SRSU had as many shots on goal (14) as WBU had total shots. Half of WBU's were on goal. SRSU ended with 24 shots taken, with WBU keeper Erin Moon recording 11 saves.
 
Wayland will try to pick up its first win Wednesday when it plays the second of a four-match road swing against University of the Southwest. Kickoff in Hobbs will be at 2 p.m. CST.
