McPHERSON, Kan. –
Ricardo Ramos scored two of Wayland Baptist's season-high six goals as the 12
th-ranked Pioneer men's soccer team rolled to a shutout victory over Central Christian College here Saturday afternoon.
All six goals came in the first half for defending national champion Wayland (8-2, 3-1), starting just 31 seconds in when Ramos found the back of the net with an assist by
James Westfield.
James Quinn, assisted by
Jose Hincapie, scored just two minutes later before
Luis Almeida made it 3-0 at the 9-minute mark.
The Pioneers cooled off for a bit but then heated back up big time when Ramos and
Federico Ucar scored – both assisted by Molley Karpeh – on either side of an own goal, all within five minutes.
With more than 11 minutes left in the first half, Wayland was up 6-0.
Of the Pioneers' 10 first-half shots, six found their way home and three others were on-goal.
WBU took just five shots in the second half. In total, 11 players fired 15 shots for the Pioneers, led by
Reece Harrison with three.
Ziggy Camejo recorded four saves in logging his sixth shutout of the season. It was Wayland's seventh shut as a team.
Central Christian fell to 7-5 overall and 0-4 in the SAC.
The Pioneers are back at Hilliard Field on Saturday, Oct. 20 to host John Brown (5-5-1, 2-2) at 3 p.m. The Golden Eagles, after drilling Bacone 10-0, on Saturday knocked off USAO, ranked the equivalent of 27
th in the NAIA, in Siloam Springs, Ark., 3-1.
