Late goals lift Pioneers past Paul Quinn, 2-1

DALLAS – Wayland scored two goals in the final 10 minutes to come away with a 2-1 victory over Paul Quinn College here Saturday afternoon. The victory keeps Wayland (2-0-1) undefeated on the season.

Wayland's first goal came from Megan Attenborough at the 80:15 mark. The Pioneers broke the 1-1 tie with just 1:47 left in regulation when Taylor Moore scored for the third straight match.

According to unofficial statistics, Wayland ended with 15 shots, nine of which were on-goal. Paul Quinn managed just four shots, half of which were on-goal.

Paul Quinn fell to 2-2. The Tigers defeated Cedar Valley College and Southwest Adventist while also falling to Southwestern Assemblies of God University, 3-0.

Wayland ends its six-contest, season-opening road swing when the Pioneers take on Howard Payne at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Brownwood. HPU will end the match with an 0-1 record, having fallen to Texas Wesleyan, 3-1 (Saturday's match between Howard Payne and Huston-Tillotson was cancelled). HPU and Wayland last faced off five years ago. The all-time series between the Pioneers and Yellow Jackets is tied, 3-3.

WBU is off to its best start since 2013 when the Pioneers began the season 3-0. In its 15-year history, Wayland has never started a season unbeaten after four matches.
