Flying Queens, Pioneers ranked in NAIA Top 10 at same time for first time this century

For the first time this century, Wayland Baptist's men's and women's basketball teams are ranked among the NAIA's top 10 teams at the same time. The Flying Queens are ranked seventh while the Pioneers show up at 10th.

The Flying Queens (17-4) came in at No. 7 in the latest poll after falling two places following two road losses last week. WBU started the season ranked sixth and, after winning its first nine games of the season, climbed to No. 3, believed to be the program's highest ranking since 1991-92 when the Flying Queens finished as national runners-up.

Meanwhile, the Pioneers (16-5) rose four spots in the men's poll from No. 14 to 10th. It's the program's highest ranking since coming in at No. 9 during the 2014-15 season when the team wound up No. 13.

While the Flying Queens (11-2 SAC) look to get back on the winning track Thursday evening at home against Langston University (8-13, 3-10), the Pioneers face a showdown with 12th-ranked, second-place Langston (17-4, 9-4). The Lions, who earlier this season defeated Wayland, 71-69, were ranked fourth prior to falling four spots following back-to-back losses to Mid-America Christian and then-No. 20 Science & Arts of Oklahoma. Langston has since posted wins over Southwestern Christian and former top 5 Oklahoma City.

Tip-off on Thursday is 6 p.m. for the women and 8 for the men.

Wayland winds up the week by hosting Central Christian, Kan., at 2 and 4 p.m. Saturday.
