FORT WORTH – It was a forgettable first half at Farrington Field in Fort Worth for the Wayland Baptist football team.
The Pioneers gave up 26 points in the first quarter and 28 more in the second period as WBU fell to Texas Wesleyan in Sooner Athletic Conference action Saturday afternoon, 63-7.
Wayland (2-3, 2-2 SAC) was a victim of the big play as Texas Wesleyan (3-1, 3-1) scored touchdowns on passes of 20, 74, 24 and 58 yards, a 19-yard rush, and a 26-yard interception return to lead 57-0 at halftime.

The Pioneer defense performed much better in the second half, limiting the Rams to three field goals. Wayland's points came on a 5-yard pass from
Brook Quinones to
Jordan Maden midway through the third quarter. Jeffrey Lucido added the PAT kick.
Wayland ended with 188 yards of offense – 149 of it in the air – by the stingy Ram defense. The Pioneers struggled converting on third down, getting it done just once in a dozen attempts. WBU was without injured starting quarterback
Nick Quintero. Quinones filled in and completed 12-of-26 for 140 yards with two interceptions and the TD.
Andrew Villa led the Pioneer defense with nine tackles.
The game saw 24 penalties for 293 yards, with WBU flagged 14 times and TXWES 10.
After playing four of its first five games on the road, the Pioneers will be home for their next two. The first is next Saturday at 2 p.m. against Oklahoma-Panhandle State (2-3, 2-2), which played at Louisiana College on Saturday.
