HOBBS, N.M. – After defeating University of the Southwest last month in Plainview, the Wayland Baptist men's basketball team was unable to come up with the season sweep as the Mustangs won the rematch here Saturday afternoon, 70-60.
The Pioneers (6-5) and Mustangs (4-5) were tied at 30 at halftime.
No statistics were immediately available for the non-conference game.
Wayland won the first time these teams met on Nov. 8 in Hutcherson Center, 71-64.
The game was the last of a four-game road swing.
The Pioneers now play three straight non-conference games at home, starting Tuesday against Calvary Bible at 6 p.m. in the Hutch. Wayland then hosts Champion Christian College at 3 p.m. Saturday in its final pre-Christmas outing before welcoming Hardin-Simmons for an exhibition at 6 p.m. Dec. 30.
The Pioneers return to Sooner Athletic Conference play Jan. 1 at Oklahoma City University.
