SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State Rams, ranked No. 1 in NCAA Division II, completed a series sweep of Wayland Baptist here Monday afternoon, winning 22-4. The Rams won the previous two days, 13-3 and 13-0. All three games were ended by the 10-run rule in the seventh inning.
The losses dropped Wayland to 6-5 in advance of another series against a D2 opponent, Adams State, Colo., this weekend at Wilder Field. Doubleheaders will begin at 2 p.m. Friday and noon Saturday.
Monday's finale against the Rams (5-1) featured a 10-run third inning that blew open a 1-0 game. ASU did the damage on the strength of seven hits, one error and a wild pitch.
The Rams went on to score six runs in the fifth and five in the sixth. In all, eight WBU pitchers allowed 17 hits and issued 11 walks while striking out seven.
Kyle Eifert (1-1) took the loss.
After being held to one hit Sunday, Wayland managed 10 Monday, including three from
Marco Rivera and two each by
Dawin Santos and
Brock Webber. Santos hit his second home run of the year.
