Alvarez-Garcia wins it in double-OT

VICTORIA – Allison Alvarez-Garcia scored with less than three minutes left in double-overtime to give Wayland Baptist a 2-1 victory over Houston-Victoria here Saturday.

Reagan Cordell initially got the Pioneers (2-2) on the board with a goal in the 26th minute. The Jaguars (3-1) evened the score with a goal 2½ minutes later.

Neither team scored over the next 97 minutes, until Alvarez-Garcia, a junior from Deer Park, fired home the winner shortly after a shot by Bianca Roman was saved.

It was the first loss of the season for the Jaguars, who won their first three matches, including wins over Sooner Athletic Conference schools Texas Wesleyan (3-2 in 2OT) and Southwestern Assemblies of God (4-1).
.
Wayland took 15 shots, seven of which were on-goal. Roman took six of the shots, two on-target. Ayrial Garcia, with four shots, was the only other Pioneer with more than one. The Jaguars took nine shots, two of which were on-goal. Kande Morita was in goal for WBU, recording one save.
