Ariel Marquez have been named Wayland Baptist University Student-Athletes of the Week.

Morita helped the women's soccer team to a 2-0 shutout victory over Huston-Tillotson in the Pioneers' lone match last week. A 5-foot-7 freshman goalkeeper from Chigasaki, Kanagawa, Japan, Morita recorded five saves in posting the clean sheet, her second of the year. She has 19 saves in five outings, a 1.40 goals-against average and a .731 save percentage. Morita and the Pioneers (3-2) host Jarvis Christian at 5 p.m. Thursday.

Marquez helped the WBU volleyball team to a pair of Sooner Athletic Conference victories: 25-22, 25-18, 25-23 at home over then league-leading Oklahoma-Panhandle State and 22-25, 25-20, 25-22, 25-23 on the road over John Brown University. Marquez, a 5-foot-4 senior defensive specialist from Amarillo, led the Pioneers in digs in both matches, logging 15 against OPSU and 14 against JBU. She totaled nine assists and an ace.

Marquez and the Pioneers (12-4, 5-1 SAC) this weekend host two teams receiving NAIA Top 25 votes: Southwestern Assemblies of God at 7 p.m. Friday and Texas Wesleyan at 1 p.m. (tentative, moved from 11 a.m.) Saturday. SAGU is ranked the equivalent of 37
th in the NAIA, while the Lady Rams are the equivalent of 29
th.
