Marco Magnoli scored the lone goal on a penalty kick to give Wayland Baptist a 1-0 victory over University of the Southwest on Saturday evening at Hilliard Field.

Magnoli got his PK chance after a foul in the box in the 58
th minute of the match. Wayland's defense made the goal – the first of the season for the Pioneers (1-1) in their second game – stand up.

Kade Tomlinson saved all four shots on-goal by USW (0-3), which fired seven shots total. Wayland was credited with 10 shots, including four on-goal. Seven different Pioneers took shots with no one player taking more than two.

Robert Ssejjemba improved to 2-0 against his former team. Ssejjemba and the Pioneers defeated USW in the coach's Wayland debut on Sept. 2, 2019, in Hobbs, N.M., 1-0.
