Bruna Moureira scored the lone goal with less than nine minutes to play, giving Wayland Baptist a 1-0 victory over Southwestern Assemblies of God University in Sooner Athletic Conference women's soccer action Tuesday afternoon at Hilliard Field.
Moureira's goal – her second in three games – came when the sophomore from Brazil collected a loose ball following a throw-in. Moureira took aim from just outside the box and placed the ball into the upper corner.
The victory – along with Friday's 2-1 triumph over Central Christian in Kansas – gave Wayland (3-5-4, 2-2-2 SAC) back-to-back wins for the first time this season. SAGU remained winless in SAC play, falling to 3-10-1, 0-5-1.
The Pioneers took two more shots than the Lady Lions, 10-8, as eight different Pioneers took shots. Six different players had shots on-goal as Wayland led that stat, 6-3.
It marked the fourth shutout of the season for WBU keeper Kanada Morita.
The game was the first of a three-match home-stand for the Pioneers, who next host Texas Wesleyan at 6 p.m. Saturday. The Lady Rams (4-8, 2-3) and Pioneers, along with Mid-America Christian (4-9-1, 3-2-1), are battling for fourth place in the conference standings.
TXWES, whose two conference wins were 1-0 victories over Southwestern Christian and SAGU, hosts Oklahoma-Panhandle State on Thursday.
