GOODWELL, Okla. – Wayland Baptist's women's soccer team couldn't capitalize on its dominant statistical advantage and settled for its program-record fourth tie of the season here Tuesday, battling Oklahoma-Panhandle State to a scoreless Sooner Athletic Conference deadlock.
The Pioneers (1-4-4, 0-1-2 SAC), who had a one-player advantage the entire match against the shorthanded Aggies (1-7-1, 0-2-1), were credited with 17 shots on-goal compared to just one for the home team. WBU took 23 shots total, versus OPSU's four.
Ten Pioneers took shots, a team-high six by
Bruna Moureira, while
Natalie Terry had a team-best three on-target shots.
The fourth tie broke the record of three held by both the 2019 and 2015 Pioneer teams. One factor contributing to the record is the NAIA's new rule prohibiting overtime in regular-season matches.
WBU's program record for shots on-goal is 28 set in a 12-0 victory over Dallas Christian in 2011.
The Pioneers will go after their first conference victory in the second of their three-match road swing on Saturday afternoon at co-league leader Oklahoma City University (7-1-2, 2-0). Kickoff is at 2 p.m. The Stars hosted Central Christian (4-5, 0-2) Tuesday.
