Tedrick Wolfe scored 24 points to lead six Pioneers in double figures as 12
th-ranked Wayland Baptist cruised to a 103-48 victory over Randall University (Okla.) on Monday evening at Hutcherson Center.
Taking a break from Sooner Athletic Conference play and on the heels of their first loss of the season, Wayland (5-1) began to pull away from the Saints (2-10) midway through the first half. Â Leading 18-15, the Pioneers scored 10 unanswered points then ended the half with seven straight points to take a 23-point, 47-24 lead into intermission.
Wayland kept the push going to open the second, extending it to a 16-0 run. The lead quickly grew to a 40-point margin, 69-29, then grew to 50, 89-39, with five minutes to play. The Pioneers' largest lead was the final margin, 55 points, on an eye-popping, reach-back dunk by freshman
William Luther with 22 seconds to go.
Wolfe's 24 points were two off his season-high, and he ended one rebound shy of a double-double while also getting six steals, four assists, three blocks and no turnovers.
D'Michael Bellfield (8-of-11 FGs) and
BJ Simmons (7-of-10) added 17 and 15 points, respectively. Scoring a dozen points apiece were
RJ Mason,
Josh Servantez, who hit 3-of-4 3-pointers, and Luther, who also had seven rebounds in 17 minutes.
Mason provided five of Wayland's 21 assists, against just six turnovers. The Pioneers forced Randall into 29 giveaways.
The Saints were led by James Thomas' 10 points.
Wayland takes a Thanksgiving break and doesn't play again until Dec. 1 when the Pioneers resume conference play at home against Southwestern Christian beginning at 7:45 p.m.
