SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. – For the sixth time in the last decade, the Wayland Baptist women's soccer team went to Arkansas to face John Brown in a Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament match. For the fifth time in that stretch, the perennial power, 22
nd-ranked JBU Golden Eagles prevailed, this time by a 4-0 count on Monday evening at Alumni Field.
In the tournament semifinal, it took the second-seeded Golden Eagles (14-4-0) just 3 minutes, 11 seconds to score on JBU's first shot attempt of the match against the sixth-seeded Pioneers. The home team made it 2-0 in the 28
th minute, then Lauren Walter recorded her second goal of the match and 18
th of the season in the 53
rd.
The Golden Eagles put it way out of reach with their final goal in the 75
th minute to secure their seventh win in a row. It was JBU's ninth shutout of the season (the Golden Eagles also blanked Southwestern Christian in the semifinals, 5-0) and the seventh time Wayland was held scoreless.
Wayland managed nine shots, four by Natalie Terry Weg, but none were on-goal. JBU fired 19 shots, and SAC Goalkeeper of the Year Kanade Morita recorded three saves.
JBU, which had seven players on the all-conference team compared to only Morita for Wayland, advances to the championship against top-seeded, 21
st-ranked Science & Arts (15-1-1) or fourth-seeded Oklahoma City (11-3-4).
Wayland's season comes to an end at 5-8-4.
