GOODWELL, Okla. – Led by Tedrick Wolfe's 26, seven Pioneers scored at least eight points as No. 22 Wayland Baptist returned to the win column with an 89-61 victory over Oklahoma-Panhandle State here Thursday night.
Wayland (8-3, 4-3 Sooner Athletic Conference) created its initial cushion by scoring a dozen unanswered points to take a 33-16 lead. The Pioneers took their largest first-half lead of 26 points, 53-27, when Reece Spencer, making his WBU debut, hit a 3-pointer.
Wayland grew its lead to 39, 81-42, with nine minutes left in the contest.
Wolfe's 26 points (four off his season-high) in 22 minutes included 9-of-14 shooting from the field and 8-of-9 foul shooting. D'Michael Bellfield added 16 points plus a team-high seven rebounds, while Dylan McDougal added 10 points. Josh Servantez and Jaxon Recer put in nine points apiece while RJ Mason and Spencer got eight each.
Recent NAIA National Player of the Week Rayquan Elliott paced the Aggies (1-12, 0-7) with 21 points.
Wayland turned the ball over 12 times compared to 25 for OPSU.
The game wrapped up the Pioneers' SAC schedule for 2022, although they'll play two non-conference road games later this month. The first is Dec. 19 in Fort Worth against No. 18 LSU-Shreveport, followed by a rematch with University of the Southwest in Hobbs, N.M., Dec. 10. WBU opened the season with a 102-65 home victory over Southwest.
