The Wayland Baptist baseball team will be looking for its first Sooner Athletic Conference victory of the season Sunday afternoon after the Pioneers dropped a doubleheader Saturday to Mid-America Christian University.

MACU pulled out a pair of 4-3 victories at Wilder Field as the series opened a day later than planned due to cold weather. In both games Saturday, the Evangels (15-5, 5-0 SAC) came up with the winning run in the top of the seventh inning to turn back the Pioneers (13-8, 0-5).

In the opener, MACU won it when Andrew Enwiya parked a monster home run over the left field fence with one out in MACU's final at-bat. It came an inning after Wayland tied it on a solo shot by
Jake Green.

The Pioneers looked to rally in the bottom of the seventh when
Brock Webber – who delivered an RBI-sacrifice foul-out in the second inning, delivered a one-out double. Pinch runner
William Flowers made it to third on a passed ball but was stranded there when
Justin Porter lined out to the shortstop and
Tyler Latham, who had an RBI-double in the fifth, flied to right to end it.

MACU pitcher Frensly Leito (4-0), a native of Curacao, went the distance, allowing five hits while striking out nine and walking two.
Gloymer Cuevas (1-2) took the loss in relief of
Tanner Solomon, who surrendered three runs on eight hits with five Ks and four walks in five innings.

In game two, MACU took a 2-0 lead with a pair of RBI-doubles to center in the second. The Evangels extended it to 3-0 in the third before Wayland got on the board in the fourth with a single by
Jack Kolich followed by a two-run homer by Green.

The Pioneers tied it in the sixth when Kolich and Green singled, and Kolich scored on an error. With two out,
Dawin Santos was intentionally walked and Green and Santos stole bases to put two in scoring position, but the Evangels escaped further damage with a strikeout.

In the seventh, MACU got a one-out single from Caden Harris, who scored when the next batter, Grant Roberts, doubled to left.

The Pioneers again threatened in the bottom of the seventh, with Webber leading off with a double. But the Evangels avoided any issues with a strikeout and back-to-back fielder's choice putouts.
