Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Pioneers will hit road looking to snap skid

Wayland Baptist's men's soccer team will hit the road for a three-match swing looking to snap a four-contest slide following Friday afternoon's 3-0 Sooner Athletic Conference loss to John Brown (Ark.).

Much like in the preceding women's match, the unbeaten Golden Eagles (6-0-2, 2-0 SAC) got two early goals in the 11th minute and 17th minute. The second came on a WBU kickback to the keeper that JBU's Alejandro Ramirez made an excellent hustle play on to give the visitors from Arkansas a 2-0 lead.

JBU made a comeback by Wayland (3-5-1, 0-2) even tougher with a third goal less than four minutes into the second half.

The Pioneers were shut out despite taking four more shots than JBU, 22-18. Both teams had eight shots on-goal.

Vitor Matos came off the bench to lead Wayland in shots with four, all of which were on-target. Another non-starter, Angel Rivas, put two of his three shots on-goal whle Ryan Naidoo and Gabriel Paglioni ended with three shots apiece, including one on-goal shot each.

WBU keeper Adriano Coppolechia came out of the action for the first time all season as Yoherlain Bejarano took his place between the pipes in the second half.

The Pioneers next play at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Oklahoma-Panhandle State (2-2-1, 0-1), which plays Saturday at Science & Arts of Oklahoma. WBU then plays two more on the road against Oklahoma City and Central Christian (Kan.) prior to returning home on Oct. 18 against SAGU for the first of three at Hilliard.
