Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Bellfield powers Pioneers past JBU

D'Michael Bellfield poured in a career-high 31 points, and Wayland Baptist made quick work of John Brown University as the Pioneers rolled to a 78-54 Sooner Athletic Conference victory in Hutcherson Center Thursday evening.

Wayland (10-4, 5-3 SAC) raced to a 24-5 lead and never looked back. The closest the Golden Eagles (3-11, 1-7) got after the Pioneers' fast start was 14 points, and WBU 's largest lead was 28 midway through the second half.

The game started with an impressive dunk by Tedrick Wolfe off an assist by Bellfield. Josh Servantez hit a pair of 3-pointers and Parrish Hewitt one, while Bellfield connected on an and-one to help fuel Wayland's fast start.

Bellfield's 31 points, on 13-of-18 shooting from the field, were 11 more than his previous-best of 20 against Mid-America Christian Dec. 3. The 6-foot-9 junior also pulled down eight rebounds and came up with a season-high five steals.

Servantez ended four 3s and 16 points and Hewitt 12 points. Jaxon Recer missed his only shot but grabbed a game-best 11 rebounds in 26 minutes off the bench.

Wayland turned the ball over just eight times, half as many as JBU's 16.

The Golden Eagles were led by DJ Ellis' 19 points.

The Pioneers return to the Hutch at 3:45 p.m. Saturday against Oklahoma City (6-8, 4-4), which fell to Oklahoma-Panhandle State on Thursday in Goodwell, 98-97. It was the first conference win for the Aggies.
