Game Recap: Baseball |

Jackson remains unbeaten as Pioneers win series-opener against Adams St.

Ty Jackson remained unbeaten on the season as the senior pitched Wayland Baptist to a 9-3 win over Adams State in the opening game of a four-game series Friday afternoon at Wilder Field. The NCAA Division II Grizzlies took game 2, 8-2.

Jackson (4-0) allowed six hits in seven innings, striking out four and walking three. Hall of Adams State's hits and all three runs came in the seventh inning.

The Pioneers jumped in front with five first-inning runs, the first three on a home run by Jake Green. Samuel Fabian followed with a solo shot before Matthew Unangst singled, went to third on Hayden Ingram's double and scored on an error.

WBU added a run in the fourth on Arturo Disla's RBI-double, then the Pioneers plated their final three in the sixth when Justin Porter walked, stole second and scored on a wild pitch, and when Disla came up with another RBI-double and Green an RBI-single.

In game two, Wayland again jumped out to an early lead, getting single runs in the first and second. Caleb Rozier put up the first with a lead-off walk and stolen base, then went home when Vann Johnson stole second. Fabian sent out his second solo homer of the day in the second inning, but that was the last run of the day for Wayland.

The Grizzlies, meanwhile, broke things open with a five-run third that featured a three-run double followed by a two-run homer. ASU added a run in the fifth and two more in the sixth.

The Pioneers were limited to four hits, two by Disla.

Tyson Potts (1-3) took the loss, allowing six runs on five hits in four innings.

The Pioneers and Grizzlies return to Wilder for two more at 1 p.m. Saturday.
