Plainview, TX – The University of North Texas at Dallas, fresh off an overtime win at Texas Wesleyan, paid a visit to the Hutcherson Center Thursday evening. The first half saw nine lead changes and the score tied twice. UNT-Dallas led by as many as 3 points at the 12:57 mark. Wayland had their largest lead of 9 points with 2:55 remaining in the half. By the time the buzzer sounded to end the first half, the Pioneers held a 35-28 lead.
The second half was primarily controlled by the Pioneers, however a layup by UNT-Dallas cut the WBU lead to a single point at 40-39 with 16:21 left in the game. Wayland extended their lead to double digits, 58-47, on a three point play by
Kabine Kaba with 12:10 left to play. The Trailblazers cut the lead to 9 points at the 11:57 mark, but the Pioneers extended their lead to 60-49 on two made free throws by
Julian Perez and Wayland extended their lead from that point. The largest lead of 18 points came with only 36 seconds remaining on a layup by
Adeola Seun to give the Pioneers their final margin of victory, 82-64.
Quenton Coleman led all scorers with 32 points. Coleman was 5-8 from the three point line, 7-9 on free throws and also contributed 3 assists and 2 steals.
Dylan McDougal scored 17 points and had 3 rebounds.
Kabine Kaba had his first double-double as a Pioneer with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Julian Perez contributed 9 points, 2 rebounds, an assist and a steal.
Niko Noumeros was second in rebounding for the Pioneers with 8 and he also scored 5 points.
Adeola Seun had a strong outing with 5 points and 5 rebounds.
Brett Leach scored 3 points, 1 rebound and an assist and
Joshua Tucker had 4 assists, 2 steals and 2 rebounds to help secure the victory.
The Pioneers, 2-1 in SAC play, will host Nelson University Saturday, November 23 at 4:00 PM.
