Pioneers Fall to #24 Kansas Wesleyan in the Coyote Classic

Salina, KS – #24 ranked Kansas Wesleyan hosted the Pioneers Saturday night in the finale of the KWU Coyote Classic and the home team came away with a 73-63 win.

The Pioneers scored the first points of the game, just 20 seconds into the contest, on a 2-pointer by Quenton Coleman. But, the Coyotes took the lead 40 seconds later on a three pointer, one of nine made threes in the first half for Kansas Wesleyan. Wayland fought back to within three points on several occasions, but was never able to retake the lead.

WBU had four players score in double figures, led by Quenton Coleman with 15. Brett Leach scored 12 points, going 4 of 5 from the 3 point line. Niko Noumeros had 11 points and added 6 rebounds and freshman Julian Perez scored 10.

James Lee and Jaxon Recer led the Pioneers in rebounding with 9 each. Lee also added 9 points. As a team, Wayland had an impressive 19 offensive rebounds.

The Pioneers will travel to Denton, TX to take on the University of North Texas, an NCAA Division I team, Thursday, November 7 in an exhibition game. The game will tip-off at 7:30 PM.
