Kissimmee, Florida – The men's soccer team from Wayland Baptist played their second game in pool play today in the NCCAA National Championship. The Pioneers tangled with the Redhawks of Roberts Wesleyan University, an NCAA Division II school and the two teams fought to a 2-2 draw.
Dario Catalan scored a goal in the 13
th minute to give Wayland Baptist a 1-0 lead.
Jamol Williams assisted on Catalan's goal. The Pioneers took a 2-0 lead in the 20
th minute when
Elliott Idehen scored his second goal of the national tournament, with an assist by
Francis Motsi.
Roberts Wesleyan cut the Pioneers lead in half when they scored a goal with only 29 seconds remaining in the first half. Neither team was able to score another goal until the 85
th minute when the Redhawks scored to tie the game at 2-2.
Roberts Wesleyan outshot Wayland Baptist 21-13, but Wayland managed 8 shots on goal compared to 7 for the Redhawks.
Francis Motsi had 3 shots on goal along with an assist.
Jamol Williams had 2 shots on goal and added an assist.
Elliott Idehen and
Dario Catalan scored goals on their only shot on goal and
Val Gonzalez added one shot on goal for the Pioneers.
Alex Neri had 5 saves in goal.
Roberts Wesleyan and Judson University play the final game in pool play tomorrow. The result of that match will determine the final standings in Pool C.
