Brayden Peyton hits three home runs in two games as the Pioneers were able to split the Friday doubleheader against Tabor College (Kan.) by falling in game one 10-9 and holding on to an 8-4 victory in game two.
Wayland Baptist jumped all over the Blue Jays in the bottom of the 1
st by scoring 3 runs that started with an
Arcadio Frausto 2-run double that scored
Felix Polanco and
Axel Guerrero.
Samuel Fabian followed later in the first with an RBI double that scored Frausto from second to make it 3-0 Pioneers. Tabor was able to respond in the next half inning with 5 runs, started by a bases-clearing double and two RBI singles. With the score at 5-3 in favor of Tabor, Pioneer third baseman
Delvis Claudio hit an opposite field home run to make it 5-4. The Blue Jays responded with a home run of their own in the 3
rd inning to make it 6-4 Tabor.
Cooper Jauz hit a sacrifice fly to left field to score Frausto to make it 6-5 Tabor in the bottom of the 3
rd. Tabor scratched across two more runs in the top of the 5
th to make the score 8-5. After a
Riley Watson RBI single and two more runs for the Blue Jays, Peyton came to the plate in the bottom of the 6th and hit a two-run shot to left to cut the Pioneer deficit to 10-9. The Pioneers were unable to bring another run across, and they fell short in game one, 10-9.
Felix Polanco made the game one start for the Pioneers, going 4.1 innings, giving up 8 runs with 6 being earned, 3 walks, and one strikeout.
Grayson Soukup threw 2.2 innings in relief, giving up 2 runs, 3 hits, 2 walks, and 2 strikeouts.
Arcadio Frausto went 3-4 with 2 RBIs and 3 runs scored.
Brayden Peyton went 2-3 with a 2-run homer and a walk.

Game two was all Wayland Baptist for the majority of this contest, and it featured the Pioneers showing off the power by hitting back-to-back-to-back home runs, 3 of the Pioneers 4 home runs in the game. Peyton hit his first shot of the game in the 2
nd inning to put the Pioneers ahead early.
Jan Rollon Jr. drove a 2 RBI single to right to make it 3-0 Pioneers after two innings. The Pioneers showed off in the 4
th with Frausto, Peyton (second of the game), and Fabian hitting three-straight moonshot home runs to extend the WBU lead to 6-0. After the Blue Jays scored 4 runs in the 6
th inning, the Pioneers scratched across two insurance runs to make it 8-4.
William Flowers came in and slammed the door on the Blue Jays as the Pioneers secured an 8-4 win.
Tyson Potts got the nod for game two and threw a solid 5.1 innings, allowing 3 runs, 5 hits, 1 walk, and 5 strikeouts.

Brayden Peyton had himself a day at the plate, finishing game two going 2-3 with two solo home runs. Peyton went 4-6 on the day with 3 home runs, including two that landed on top of the Hutcherson Center in left-center field, and 4 RBIs.

The Pioneers will look to take the series against Tabor College with another home doubleheader scheduled for Saturday. Game one first pitch is set for 11:30 AM.
