Pioneers Crush 5 Homers in Friday Doublehheader Sweep of Central Christian

Plainview, Texas – The Pioneers dominated the Tigers of Central Christian College (Kan.) to the tune of a Friday sweep to begin Sooner Athletic Conference play. The Pioneers got multi-homer days by Arcadio Frausto in game one and Delvis Claudio in game two to lead the Pioneers.
 
Wayland Baptist fell behind 1-0 in the top of the 2nd after Central Christian scored on an RBI single to center. The Pioneers responded immediately in the bottom of the 2nd when Arcadio Frausto hit a solo moonshot to center to tie the game at 1. Second basemen Cooper Jauz ripped an RBI single to left to score the runner from second to give the Pioneers a 2-1 lead after two innings. The Tigers regained the lead after an RBI single in the 3rd, and back-to-back RBI doubles in the top of the 4th to take a 5-2 lead.
 
The Pioneers erupted for 9 runs that started with another RBI single by Jauz to make it 5-3. Jan Rollon Jr. then knocked in another run after an RBI single to center. Delvis Claudio continued the hit parade with an RBI double to left to score Hayden Ingram. With the bases loaded, Frausto drove a double to score two more runs to make it 7-5 Pioneers. Samuel Fabian followed up Frausto by driving a sacrifice fly to left to make it 8-5. A Jauz RBI hit by pitch and Rollon Jr. RBI single capped off the Pioneers nine run inning to make the score 11-5. Frausto hit another solo homer in the bottom of the 6th inning to make it 12-5 in favor of the Pioneers. Grayson Soukup slammed the door on the Tigers in the top of the 7th to secure the 12-5 victory for the Pioneers in game one of the Friday's doubleheader.
 
Frausto went 3-4 with two home runs, 4 RBIs, and 3 runs scored. Jan Rollon Jr. finished 2-4 with 2 RBI's. Cooper Jauz finished 2-2 with 3 RBI's, a run scored, and a hit by pitch. Hayden Ingram went 2-2 with an RBI, a walk, and a run scored.
 
Tyson Potts got the start in game one for the Pioneers and allowed 5 runs with 4 being earned over 4.2 innings of work. Potts allowed 6 hits, 3 walks, and struck out 5 Tigers. Grayson Soukup picked up the win by throwing a great 2.1 scoreless innings, allowing no hits, no walk, and 2 strikeouts.
 
Wayland Baptist started game two by falling behind 3-0 after the Tigers got their first run on a balk and followed it up with a sacrifice fly and an RBI single. The Tigers then took a 4-0 lead in the top of the 2nd after an RBI groundout. The Pioneers cracked the scoreboard in the bottom of the 3rd after Vann Johnson smashed a triple to the right center field gap to score a runner from first and make it 4-1. Felix Polanco brought Johnson into score in the next at bat with an RBI single to left to make it 4-2. The very next pitch, Delvis Claudio hit an absolute bomb to left field to tie the game at 4 after three innings of play.
 
Central Christian got a runner on first with one out in the top of the 4th inning, but Johnson made a spectacular sliding catch on a tough liner to center field to keep the game tied at 4. The Tigers regained the lead in the top of the 5th inning after hitting a solo homer to left, making it 5-4 Central Christian. The Pioneer bats exploded in the bottom of the 5th with 11 runs, started by a Samuel Fabian single to right to score Claudio from to second to tie the game at 5. The next batter, Arcadio Frausto, smashed a double off the center field wall to score Fabian from first to give the Pioneers a 6-5 lead. With the bases loaded in the bottom of the 5th, Jauz ripped a double down the third base line to make it 9-5 Pioneers. Hayden Ingram followed Jauz with an RBI double to left center field to make it 10-5. With the bases loaded, Claudio continued the Pioneer onslaught by crushing a grand slam to left for his 2nd dinger of the game. After the Tigers scratched across a run in the top of the 6th to make it 15-6, Danny Arambula drove a double to the right center field gap to give the Pioneers a 16-6 lead. Catcher Brayden Peyton extended the Pioneer lead with a rare inside-the-park grand slam to make it 20-6 to end the 6th inning. Arturo Nunez came in and finished the Tigers off in the top of the 7th to secure the 20-6 victory for the Pioneers.
 
Claudio finished game two hitting 2-3 with two home runs including a grand slam, 6 RBIs, 3 runs scored, and a stolen base. Fabian went 2-3 with an RBI, 2 runs scored, and a stolen base. Brayden Peyton went 1-4 with an inside-the-park grand slam, 2 runs scored, and a stolen base. Vann Johnson went 4-4 with an RBI, 3 runs scored, and two stolen bases. Ingram went 3-3 with an RBI and two runs scored. Jauz finished 1-4 with 3 RBIs and a run scored.
 
Pioneer starting pitcher Wellington Vargas was only able to throw 1.1 innings before leaving with an injury. Vargas gave up 4 runs with 3 of those being earned, only one hit, 3 walks, and 1 strikeout. Nathan Baca relieved Vargas and pitched a solid 3.1 innings only giving up 1 run, 3 hits, 2 walks, and 3 strikeouts.
 
The Pioneers will look to complete the weekend sweep of Central Christian College (Kan.) with the final game of the series scheduled for Saturday at 12:00 PM from Wilder Field.
