Goodwell, Oklahoma – The Pioneers completed the 4-game sweep of Oklahoma Panhandle State University by dominating the Aggies in their doubleheader on Saturday to move to 10-6 in Sooner Athletic Conference play. The Pioneers won game one 8-4 and game two 18-7, and the 10-6 record in Sooner Athletic Conference play puts them in sole possession of 5
th place in the conference standings.
Wayland Baptist got out to an early lead in the top of the 1
st of game one after back-to-back singles to lead off the inning followed by a
Berkley Bradley two-run single made it 2-0 Pioneers.
Jadyn Fernandez then drove in the third first-inning run for the Pioneers after an error by the Aggies made it 3-0. OPSU got one run across in their half of the first, but the Pioneers maintained their strong start in the top of the 2
nd when
Reagan Davis ripped a triple to score
Addy Rich from first to make it 4-1. Davis came in to score the next at bat after
Mikayla Carrillo hit a sacrifice fly to center field to make it 5-1.
OPSU got another run in the bottom of the 3
rd, but the Pioneers erased that immediately in the top of the 4

th and the bases loaded following an
Arianna Zubia single, Bradley smacked another RBI single to make it an 8-4 Pioneer lead. Rich was able to get the final six outs to wrap up the 8-4 win in game one for Wayland Baptist.
Addy Rich made the start in game one for the Pioneers, and she pitched seven innings, allowing 4 runs, 10 hits, no walks, and 4 strikeouts. The Pioneers offense getting the early lead allowed Rich to attack hitters and not worry about being perfect, and she was able to secure her 6
th win on the season.
Bradley went 2-4 with two singles and 3 RBIs. Davis finished 4-5 with a triple, 3 singles, an RBI, 4 runs scored, and two stolen bases. Carrillo went 2-4 with two singles, two RBIs, and two runs scored.
To say the Pioneer offense jumped all over Aggie pitching to begin game two would be a drastic understatement as they scored nine runs in the top of the 1
st to take total control of the game and series. It started when the first four Pioneer batters reached bases to load them up for Bradley, who proceeded to drive a double that scored two runs making it 2-0.
Jenna Sepeda then smacked a two-run single to make it 4-0. With the bases loaded yet again and one out,
Aaleah Rodriguez hit a two-run single to make it 6-0 and enforce an Aggie pitching change. An RBI double by
Mikayla Carrillo and two-run double by
Arianna Zubia made it 9-0 Wayland Baptist.
Clarissa Rejino pitched a scoreless first inning, then got another run in support after
KJ Ray hit an RBI double to make it 10-0. The Aggies got two runs in the 2
nd and three in the 4
th to send a 10-5 game into the top of the 5
th inning.
The Pioneers began the top of the 5
th by getting runners to second and third with no outs, and Carrillo followed with a two-run single to left to make it 12-5 in favor of the Pioneers. OPSU got their final two runs in the bottom of the 5
th after a Pioneer error made it 12-7. Wayland Baptist got six runs in the top of the 6
th inning to make it an 18-7 onslaught of the Aggies, and Rich pitched a 1-2-3 bottom of the 6
th to put the 10-run rule after six innings into effect. With the final being 18-7, this caps off the Pioneers 4-game sweep of OPSU to extend their win streak to five games and wins in 12 of their last 14 games.
Rejino got the start in game two for the Pioneers, and she went 4 innings, allowing 3 earned runs, 8 hits, one walk, and one strikeout. Rich pitch two innings in relief, giving up two runs, two hits, no walks, and no strikeouts.
Carrillo finished 4-4 with a double, 3 singles, 4 RBIs, two runs scored, and a walk. Sepeda went 3-5 with a double, two singles, 4 RBIs, and a run scored. Ray went 2-3 with a double, and RBI, and a run scored. Bradley finished 2-5 with a double, two RBIs, and two runs scored.
The Pioneers will look to extend their winning streak to six games when they host Central Christian College (Kan.) for a 4-game home Sooner Athletic Conference series beginning with a doubleheader on Friday. First pitch for game one on Friday is scheduled for 3:30 PM.
